Back in August my phone rang. What I thought was just going to be a “hey, how’s it going?” check-in from a friend and colleague of mine, turned out to be a referral for one of my favorite gigs in recent memory. Pow! Wow! is a global arts festival which made a stop in my backyard, Worcester, MA. Being a New England boy, (born in Boston,) I was psyched to ditch the beach for a few weeks and completely shift gears to photograph in the urban setting affectionately refereed to as, “The Woo.” Though seen by many as “graffiti,” these predominantly urban-based artists are extremely gifted, talented and a blast to hang out with. It’s hard to beat a job with minimal restrictions and maximum creative freedom… a key reason may of us got into the arts in the first place.
