A photographer who still believes in looking.

Phillip Lehans was born in Boston and trained at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst before studying at the Hallmark Institute of Photography. His work moves between documentary and editorial registers — always rooted in a belief that a photograph's first job is to watch.

He is the author of Village Beaches and These Hamptons, two volumes that pair large-format fine art photography with extended writing on place. His images have appeared in The New York Times Style, Vogue, Vanity Fair, Travel + Leisure, and Architectural Digest.

Phillip's practice also includes commissioned cinematography and art advisory work for private collectors, institutions, and brands. He accepts a small number of event, portrait, and editorial commissions each year.
